Derek Chernow has a long history in the public, private and non-profit sectors working on many important energy and enviornmental-related issues in California. Prior to joining the Coalition for Community Solar Access, Derek held a number of leadership roles in state service, including Executive Director of the California Alternative Energy & Advanced Transportation Financing Authority (CAEATFA) and Acting Director and Chief Deputy Director of the California Department of Conservation. Derek has worked for a number of elected officials including the chair of the California State Senate Budget Subcommittee on Resources, Environmental Protection, Energy and Transportation. In the private sector, Derek spent time as Government Affairs Director for an alternative fuel and e-mobility company, helped launch a clean tech venture capital fund and served as an executive in a public affairs consulting firm specializing in energy and the environment. Having led a number of non-profit advocacy and community organizations, Derek now serves on the Board of the Sacramento Tree Foundation.
